The Inertia

When it comes to big waves, there are none more famous than the ones that roll into Waimea Bay. It’s a place steeped in surf history; one of the most important places not just on the North Shore, but to anywhere with a surf culture. And on December 27th, the Bay got big.

“Wednesday was just a warm up,” said Oahu Surf Films on YouTube. “The forecast for December 28th is estimated to see in excess of 35 foot waves.”

It’s one of the original big wave spots, and when it starts working, you’re sure to see quite a few familiar faces in the lineup. Even when it’s big, there’s something a little more friendly about Waimea — the general vibe there is a little more welcoming to those who’ve proven themselves there, but it’s not a wave to be taken lightly.
