Newsflash: adding more volume can help you catch more waves. I thought it might be good to have a little chat about volume. I swung by Ryan Harris’s shaping bay to find out more about the volume of a surfboard and how it can help surfers.
Volume is the one thing – besides being waterproof – that all types of surf craft have in common, whether it’s a surfboard, SUP, skimboard, or prone paddleboard. But what is it, exactly?
“It’s the liter-age of foam that is in the board, displacing water,” Ryan told me. “It’s a relatively new way for people to sell boards. Until the CNC machine came along, we didn’t have that fourth dimension to describe boards.”
I dove into the subject with Ryan. Hope this gives you some insight.
