Down in the south of Victoria, Australia, lies a cold sleepy coast known as the Mornington Peninsula. Not exactly the ideal place for a holiday, but this coast gets hammered every winter by solid swells out of the Bass Strait. It’s the forgotten coast of Australia.
During the colder months, your hands are blue, feet are numb, and brain freezes are frequent. For those braving the cold, the rewards can be great — this coast can be fickle but ever so consistent. There’s always countless days of driving between spots, checking one you thought would be on the night before, only to find out it’s too big or the tide is out with that creeping onshore wind just around the corner. Then there are those days that go down as some of the greatest sessions guys have ever had, home or abroad, and they’re the days we all live for.
I’ve lived here all my life and the cold might get to me, but damn this coast is fun. And when it’s on, it’s on.
