The Inertia

On Wednesday, a man in his fifties was pulled from the water at the recently opened URBNSURF at Sydney Olympic Park. He was rushed to the hospital after he suffered what park officials called “a medical episode on site.” Details surrounding what exactly happened are still murky, but he was found unconscious. For now, the park has been closed until further notice.

“The URBNSURF team responded to provide support and care for the guest before paramedics arrived,” a statement from URBNSURF to News.com.au reads. “Our main priority is the health, safety and wellbeing of our guests and staff and our thoughts are with them at this time.”

The park, which opened in April of 2024, cost around $50 million to build. It is constantly monitored by lifeguards, who recently rescued Penrith Panthers rugby star Jarome Luai after he needed help during something called “a State of Origin recovery session.”

We’ll have more on this story as information becomes available.
