Prime Video just dropped a teaser for Surf Girls Hawai’i, a new docuseries that will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of the next generation of native Hawaiian female surfers. The series’ four episodes will follow Moana Jones Wong, Ewe Wong, Maluhia Kinimaka, Pua DeSoto, and Brianna Cope as they vie for a spot on the world tour.
“I grew up watching Carissa Moore and Coco Ho, and now it’s my turn,” says Moana Jones Wong in the trailer. Surf Girls Hawai’i promises not only footage of the doc’s subjects ripping on Oahu’s North Shore, but also a peek into the personal lives of the tight-knit community of female surfers on the island.
“The stakes have never been higher as they battle intense waves, while feeling the added responsibility of representing their native Hawaiian heritage in the world of competitive surfing,” reads a press release from Prime Video, “It’s a coming-of-age story on the ocean, featuring the most beautiful beaches in the world during endless summer.”
The series was produced by Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine, in partnership with TOGETHXR, a digital platform focused on women in sports. The WSL’s Eric Logan and Jed Pearson IV are also among the executive producers on the project.
Surf Girls Hawai’i premieres July 18 exclusively on Prime Video.
