The Inertia

There’s nothing quite like the feeling one gets in those few precious moments when paddling into a good wave. Prone, arms powering through the water, looking down the line at a wave that you just know is going to a good one. It’s almost as good as the wave itself. The delicious anticipation of just how much fun you’re about to have. Such was likely the case for the surfer on the opening wave in the video you see above.

It was all shot a few years ago in Bali, when a big swell graced Uluwatu. Both the Bombie and Outside Corner were working, but according to Surfers of Bali, O.C. was the better of the two. It wasn’t all glassy waves and perfect rides, though — there were plenty of beat downs and surfers getting caught inside. That’s the price of admission, though, and it’s almost always worth it.
