May was a pretty good month to be surfing on the Gold Coast. The waves there, as you know, are just about as good as waves get, but the crowds are very much aware of how good the waves get. When there’s a swell at Kirra or Straddie — the waves you see in the video above — the lineup’s going to be packed. And it’s packed with a lot of really good surfers.
Take, for example, the two days in this video from MySurf.tv. Mick Fanning, Steph Gilmore, and Ryan Hipwood were all there. You know how hard it would be to get a set wave at Kirra with those three in the lineup? Hard. Really hard.
