Last year, Tully Wylie won the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach trials. That meant that he bought himself a spot in the main event, which was likely an exciting development. Competing against the regulars on the WCT ain’t easy, though, and Wylie was defeated in the elimination round in his heat against Griffin Colapinto and Jadson Andre. Going down in the elimination round, however, still netted the Jan Juc local a cool $10,000. And what better way to spend $10k won surfing than on a surf trip?
Within days, Wylie had a flight booked to Indonesia, a place where $10,000 goes a long way. Once there, he spent his time (and his money) on Bali, Lombok, and in the Mentawais for 60 days of near-constant barrels. For my money, it was the best use of $10,000 ever.
