The Inertia

It takes careful planning and just the right swell to make for the perfect surf trip, luckily Pedro Boonman just had both of those. Tubos D’agua, a new video published by the Hidden Bay Resort in the Mentawais, documents Pedro Boonman’s four days of surf before and after Capitulo Perfeito.

In case you missed it, Capitulo Perfeito is a Portuguese one-day invitational tube-riding competition that takes place in Carcavelos, Portugal. Carcavelos can be finicky, but under just the right conditions produces barrels that rival any break in the world. As such, the event relies heavily on careful forecasting, to ensure it runs on the absolute best day of the Portuguese winter.

Pedro Boonman, himself a Carcavelos local, also had his own careful eye on the conditions leading up to this year’s competition. “I’m a prediction freak,” he said. “I started to see a pretty good pattern. It was quite a big swell, a perfect direction, from the west, almost straight in. With the wind pointing that way from the north, we were supposed to have four days of swell.”

Those four days of swell turned out to be spectacular, as the video documents. Starting off with the first day of the swell hitting for a massive pre-competition day at Carcavelos, then firing conditions for the competition itself, and finishing with two excellent days at nearby Supertubos. Once again, the Perfect Chapter lived up to its name.
