The Inertia

The Gold Coast is currently bracing itself for the landfall of Tropical Cyclone Alfred. However, that has not stopped local surfers from taking advantage of waves created by the oncoming storm, as seen in a new edit from YouTube channel Raw Surfing.

“Cyclone Alfred arrived on the Gold Coast Sunday and the surf picked up to well overhead and hollow at low tide,” wrote Raw Surfing in the caption. “It was day one of hopefully a week of waves.”

However, Australian meteorologists warn that surf isn’t the only thing to expect from the storm. According to ABC News Australia, Tropical Cyclone Alfred is expected to become a category two storm at 4:00 a.m. local time. According to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), as the storm approaches, it is expected to create winds of up to 75 miles per hour along the coast. Senior BOM meteorologist Sarah Scully told ABC News that there would be “widespread impacts” from what she thinks will be a “multi-day event”
