The Inertia

For the past two months, I’ve been lucky to sample the waters of Indonesia and the Southern atolls of the Maldives. My journey started on the Island of the Gods. Upon arrival to Bali, we were graced with unseasonally blue skies which prevailed throughout my time on the island. Luck was in our favor as the swell also turned up. The following two weeks consisted of surf, mi goreng, surf, nasi goreng, then beers – it all blurs into a state of deja vu.

Before heading off to the Maldives, I had a week at home during the Noosa Festival of Surfing. For the second year running, a great run of waves wrapped its way down the points providing endless blue walls for the entire week.

After a big week being fried by the Queensland sun, salt and partying, it was onwards to the Maldives where I was to spend the next month aboard the Handhu Fahli surf charters shooting for “World Surfaris.” Flying into the Maldives is like viewing a giant necklace laid out over the Indian Ocean. Before heading to the southern atolls, I had a preconceived notion drawn from mixed opinions of the area. I thought that the waves were soft and I wasn’t going to find anything to heavy. How wrong I was!
