At the Reef Hawaiian Pro, South African Travis Logie revealed his decision to retire from the World Championship Tour. According to an interview with the ASP, Logie confessed:
I’m almost definitely not going to requalify [for the WCT] at the end of this year and I felt like it’s time for a change. As much as I love doing it, I’m not ready to go back on the Qualification Series (QS) and I needed some time at home, in one spot, to be with my wife more. It just feels like it’s time for a change. I feel like I’m surfing good enough to do the QS and requalify, but I’ve done that over and over and this is something different.
Travis Logie is a veteran of the sport and he would undoubtedly do well in the QS if that were what he wanted. But competing on the QS is a gauntlet. It isn’t complimentary trips to Indonesia and endless free, fresh boards. Logie knows what it takes to get back on the CT and he’s over it. And there is nothing wrong with that. Logie explained that he’s “lost a little bit of that competitive spark” and competing is taking away time that he could be spending with his beautiful family. Besides, Travis has several years before he actually leaves the professional surfing space. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him competing in a few contests here and there. However, I’m personally bummed to hear of Logie’s retirement. I love the way he surfs, and although he didn’t have any phenomenal results this year, I always reserved a spot for him on my fantasy team. Farewell, Mr. Logie.
