Reflection is the latest Torren Martyn project produced by Needessentials. The partnership between the two has created some pretty incredible projects over the years, and this latest production gathers years of footage from three separate films for a highlight reel that captures Torren’s inimitable style.
Directed by filmmaker and longtime Torren collaborator Ishka Folkwell, Reflection takes footage from Lost Track Atlantic, Lost Track New Zealand and Calypte. The recut clips are accompanied by an original soundtrack by Headland, which is being released as a two-song EP.
The supercut pulls moments from Torren’s journeys that take him literally around the world, starting with Lost Track Atlantic, where he journeyed to the equatorial coast of West Africa. Then, in Lost Track New Zealand, Torren and Ishka embarked on a motorcycle tour of Aotearoa, where they battled the elements as much as waves. Finally, Calypte told the story of Torren and his partner Aiyana sailing the South China Sea in a 35-foot sailboat.
The result is a mesmerizing film, where Ishka’s bold and thoughtful filmmaking perfectly complements Torren’s effortless style. Check it out below.
