The Inertia

Listening to Tony Hawk talk about the authenticity of skating in Hollywood flicks is super interesting on a number of fronts: first off, Tony has been involved in numerous movie productions so he can talk with authority on what’s going on (see, lack of budget for extras in the movie, Grind). Then there’s the actual expertise on trick execution and when editing gets in the way of showing actual completion on film.

One of the most surprising things about this interview with GQ is the film Tony credits with getting the most people into skating: Back to the Future. No, the skating was anything but good, he says. But Michael J Fox’s breakout role was seen by so many people worldwide that it inspired a whole generation of kids to pick up a board.
