Vans and Tony Hawk, two iconic powerhouses of skate culture, announced a partnership today with a release going out to outlets across the action sports industry.
“Vans has supported skateboarding since the very beginning, and never wavered in its commitment, even with massive mainstream success,” Hawk said in the release. “I have always respected their integrity, so it is an honor to officially join forces and help continue to grow skateboarding culture in the most authentic way possible.”
According to the brand, Hawk will continue his role as a color announcer for the Vans Park Series. Hawk will also help Vans launch several initiatives including a timely one: “Foot The Bill,” which will help small businesses by creating custom footwear for skate shops that are hurting due to the COVID-19 restrictions on non-essential businesses. Proceeds from sales will go to those individual shops to try and provide some relief.
“These days are extremely difficult for so many, which is why we are hoping to provide some fun and creativity for the global community to enjoy,” Hawk said of the program. “In unprecedented times like these, we need to stay positive, support each other and keep creating.”
Hawk, who despite being in his 50s has stayed in pretty incredible shape and still has the ability to move the needle on a global level, has had custom shoes through Airwalk, Adio, and Lakai in the past. No word yet on any Hawk custom sneakers in the works. But the “Foot the Bill” program is certainly needed during the current world situation.
