The Inertia

Filmmaker Evan Adamson disregards convention while preserving the tradition of classic style. Adamson’s most recent edit, Lucid Surf Dreams, orchestrates a seamless pairing of surfing, aesthetics, and musical prowess. Each element, strong enough to stand-alone, joins together to create something special. This edit doesn’t seek to highlight one specific component or attribute; instead, the visuals, the sounds, and the incredible surfing come together to create an experience.

Surf. Tommy Witt needs to start paying rent on the front third of his sled. His agility, board control, and innovatively classic style make him a pleasure to watch. It’s as if no one’s ever told him which direction his board is supposed to face. And well, wherever his feet are/whichever way this log is rolling, you can expect magical things. Tommy, keep finding that high line and we’ll keep yew’n.

Videography. A true Texas surfer, Evan Adamson uses film as a medium to find the solution between the act of surfing and the sounds of music. Evan’s work is playfully expressive and a product of his acute attention to detail, and a surplus of attention deficit. Between each cross step and with every cut back the margin separating music and surfing is decreasing. Evan’s technique allows the surfer to score and direct their own music as they slide down the line. The nature of this edit, how the pace ebbs and flows to echo and emphasize its components, adds a layer of enjoyment that is all too often missing from surf flicks.
