The Inertia

Of all the surfboards kicking around the market right now, the Free Scrubber might be the one most talked about. It’s an interesting shape, created by the minds and hands of Tom Curren and Britt Merrick and named for Curren’s already-classic film. An attempt at recreating a handful of magic twin fins Al Merrick shaped for Curren four decades ago, the Free Scrubber has a low rocker, classic vee bottom design, and an early ’80s winged swallow tail outline. The rails and foil, however, are a little more modern; an updated version of an old classic. Generally, we’ve seen Tom Curren riding it, but recently a different Tom took one for a test drive: Tom Carroll. He did it with Luca Elder for a little series they call, “What’s Going On.”
