On the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, there lies a little town called Tofino. It’s a beautiful place, surrounded by mountains and forests. It’s a cold-water surf town, and the community there is unlike anywhere else.
This film is a passion project that centers around the women’s surf community in Tofino. There is a thriving tribe of women who are all inspired and unified by the sea. Queen of the Peak, the annual all-women’s surf contest is a testament of the grit and determination of those who live there. I asked the women that I came to know if I could tell their story from my point of view, and they pulled out all the stops.
I’ve made fast friends in town and feel lucky to have been able to share their story which is set amid one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to. The film touches on why there is a concentration of women there, as well as what surfing means to them.
