The Inertia

New South Wales has had no shortage of waves recently. First, there was the ferocious swell, combined with a king tide, that leveled parts of the coastline. Immediately afterwards, that energy arrived at Deadman’s to create insane conditions at the notorious break (and some pretty horrifying wipeouts, too). Well, now that madness has reached Sydney, and videographer Tim Bonython was there to see it.

The whole thing went down at Cape Solander, a break that used to be known as  “Ours,” by the surf gang the Bra Boys. However, now that the Bra Boys are gone, the wave has a different nickname: “Cape Fear.” Bonython calls it one of the heaviest, most perfect barrels Sydney has to offer – and it’s not for the faint-hearted.

“Some insane surfing at that slabbing barrel, right here in Sydney,” he summed up afterwards. “Unbelievable to have such a great wave here in Sydney, so close to home. Some great surfing, some great barrels.”
