When Tim Bonython says a day is perfect, that means something. The Australian surf filmmaker makes it his business to be wherever in the world there are insane waves, from thundering Mullaghmore to historic Nazare. His latest post takes him back to Teahupo’o, where he’d previously posted footage from what he called a “postcard-perfect” day at the famed break. At the time it seemed like it couldn’t possibly get any better, but part two of the series proves that the place of broken skulls still had more to give.
“It is absolutely firing,” says Bonython at the top of the video. “Some of the most perfect waves you’ll see anywhere on the planet. I thought what we got the other day was crazy and perfect, but this just outdoes that. It is just so flawlessly good, and I’m absolutely frothing.”
Teahupo’o has been the source of a good amount of controversy over the past year or so, from questions regarding its viability as an Olympic venue to environmental concerns regarding the installation of a judging tower to hold said Olympics. However, it’s nice to go back and just see the break doing what we know it does best – producing some of the best surfable waves anywhere in the world.
