The Inertia

By now, you’ve probably seen images from the insanity that recently went down at Pe’ahi, also known as Jaws. The chaos occurred as a result of the same swell that triggered the 2024 Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational, and the resulting waves were a sight to behold – and to surf.

Of course, no big-wave swell event would be complete without the perspective of Tim Bonython. The Australian videographer doggedly pursues the greatest waves on Earth, from slabbing Cape Solander, to towering Nazaré. Not only that, but his camera films them in all their beautiful, daunting glory. His latest effort, “5 Days at Peahi” is yet another jaw-dropping addition to his oeuvre.

The newly published short also works in interviews with the watermen and women who dare to challenge the famed wave. Featured in the video are interviews with Yuri Soledade, Kaipo Soledade and Andrea Moller, along with the surfing of Matt Bromley, Albee Layer, Kai Lenny, and many more.

Not only that, but based on the rather ominous-sounding “to be continued…” that the piece ends with, this is just the beginning.
