@bootscootinaf Wasn’t expecting that 😅😖 #australia #northqueensland #fyp ♬ original sound – moonlight 🌙✨

There are plenty of odd creatures in the sea, so when a Tiktok user going by the handle of @bootscootinaf found something floating around on a beach, she could be forgiven for not knowing what it was.

The animal part, long and fleshy and pink, washed up in the waters of North Queensland, Australia when she found it. She asked her viewers to help her identify what it might be, and they responded quickly.

“With the help of TikTok and marine biologists,” she said in a later clip, “I think we have finally figured out what that weird animal thing is: It’s a whale dick.”

And while it certainly could be a whale dick (I’ve not had the pleasure of seeing one yet), one cannot simply believe everything one sees on TikTok. So let us go to Dr. Vanessa Pirotta, a wildlife scientist who might’ve seen a whale dick, for clarification. Please ignore the fact that she too is on TikTok, since as we’ve established, one cannot simply believe everything one sees on TikTok.

“It’s hard to know exactly what this object is without seeing it in the flesh,” Dr. Pirotta says. “As a scientist, we want to have as much information on the size and also how it looks from every single angle. So we simply don’t know at this stage.”

@drvanessapirotta Whale penis? Here’s my brief assessment. Nice find @bootscootinaf #northqueensland #australia #whalepenis #whale #whales #whaleon #scicomm ♬ original sound – drvanessapirotta

Whatever the object might be — and honestly, I’ve just done some horrendous Googling that leads me to believe that a whale dick is a pretty good guess — it’s clear that there’s a creature out there missing a substantial chunk of something relatively important to it.
