Shane Borland, Noah Schweizer and I took a last-minute flight down south of the border to visit Noah’s brother, Nils. California was enduring another one of its flat spells and I remember Noah telling us his brother had been getting some really fun waves, so we pulled the trigger and flew down.
I fell in love with Mexico after this trip. I had always been a tad nervous before this, but afterward, I realized it’s actually the raddest place ever. We met new friends, surfed the waves out front and drank lots of Corona with lime. We took a mini road trip to a little right point that had some nice ramps for the boys to mess around on, and there was almost no one in the lineups. It was such a good vibe down there the whole time. The only problem we ran into was after the little right point break, Nils’ red truck broke down and we found ourselves stuck overnight in a sketchy place. Luckily, we ended up finding someone to patch up the truck and, just like that, we were on the road again back home.
We all plan on going back again soon. In fact, I’ve been back already since this trip and got it better. Another good trip under the belt, some more good memories, and some more limey beers.
