The Inertia

How many Ben Gravy videos have you seen that feature ferry surfing in the greater New Jersey area? And not once have we seen the law get involved. Until now. Seamus Carey, a Ben Gravy protege, was recently surfing the Cape May Ferry between New Jersey and Delaware, or about to sans wetsuit, when several police officers stopped to ask what the hell he was doing?

Seamus is only 17, wasn’t carrying identification (he was surfing in boardshorts in December so of course he didn’t have ID), and actually handled the pressing matter by the local police with aplomb. As did his accomplice, Mr. Gravy. The police came at the young surfer fairly hard: “It’s 38 degrees. That’s probably not the brightest thing.” They also questioned the quality of the wave the boys were after: “It looks like a lot of work.”

Despite getting the treatment, Seamus avoided charges: “Those cops were doing their jobs. Do I agree with some of the things they said? No. But their job is important.” Kid definitely took the high road.
