The Inertia

In the age of retina displays, 4K, RED, and virtual reality, there’s something oh so refreshing about analog. The spontaneous appearance of white and black specks are the cinephile’s equivalent to pops and crackles of a vinyl record. The experience is different. Sure it’s not high definition. You can’t see every freckle on Jamie O’Brien’s face as he whizzes past in the tube. But the color has a warmth that can only be captured on film.

The short above, called Homemade by Alex DePhillipo, harkens back to the golden age of surf filmmaking. Think Endless Summer, or Morning of the Earth (for comparison sake and for your viewing pleasure, see below).
