Wow. These are the sorts of stories that really put things in perspective. Meet Aitor Francesena, a legend among the Spanish surf community. For his entire life, he’s battled with congenital glaucoma that cost him his sight in his right eye at age 14. Years later, an accident doing what he loves cost him sight in his left eye, leaving him totally blind.
In spite of his new situation, Aitor overcame and pushed himself to get back in the water. Without his eyes, he found new ways to connect with the ocean, namely through sound and feeling. He also continues to teach others proper technique and pass along his electric zeal for surf.
