Yep. Too close. Simply too close. Cool, for sure. But too damn close.
Brian Recker was at Cape Lookout National Seashore off the coast of North Carolina with his friend and cameraman Donnie Griggs when they laid their eyes on a shark feeding frenzy that puts even those ankle-wetting wades out to the shorebreak in harm’s way. At a retreat with One Harbor Church, the men were out fishing when they came across the 100 or so sharks tearing into a school of blue fish: “As seagulls and pelicans joined in on the meal, the men began to cast into the surf, catching fish without the use of bait. For more than five minutes, the sharks were observed swimming in and out of the surf, some of which became beached in the fury.”
But don’t worry — Recker and Griggs want “to be clear that Cape Lookout and the surrounding beaches of Eastern North Carolina are extremely safe for swimming. The presence of these sharks and large schools of fish is actually a sign of a very healthy ecosystem.” C’mon! That’s like corralling a group of people into a room or basement, turning the lights off, playing ominous music, and telling everyone to relax…
