If this is the future, then the future looks freakin’ awesome. Sign me up! (How do you say that in Slovakian?)
What is this supposed future we talk about? The website created by designers Nice Architects explains: “Ecocapsule is a portable house offering an unmatched dwelling experience. With its immense off-grid life span, worldwide portability and flexibility it is suitable for a wide range of applications: from an independent research station or a tourist lodge to an emergency housing or a humanitarian-action unit.”
While pricing won’t be announced until the fourth quarter of 2015, there are plenty of details to dig into until then. Take the layout for one — it looks like there is more than enough room to comfortably live for short or even extended stretches of time.
Check out interactive presentations of both exterior and interior to get a better idea of what that layout looks like in person, or at least three dimensions: “Ecocapsule is a low-energy house packed into a compact form. It merges an energy efficient shape, compact volume and off-grid capabilities with the luxuries of a warm bed, running water and a hot meal. Even though small in size, each Ecocapsule comfortably houses two adults. Its efficient spatial layout allows you to enjoy convenience of household facilities in off-grid conditions. Built-in kitchenette with running water, flushing toilet and hot shower are luxuries of a hotel room that are now also available in wilderness. Plenty of storage space also fits all your sport or research equipment.”
Flushing toilets? That is either very impressive, or a little far-fetched. Perhaps they mean composting toilet? The latter is what Gizmag purports.
Considering the infrastructure? The essentials of energy and water are part of the plan…
…with a granular breakdown of how the system performed for a year to boot, a year being the claimed length of time that it would hold up.
Just think. Your own mountain retreat…
…or beachfront property…
…or observatory beneath the stars.
And depending on your zoning laws/policies, these off-the-grid homes are also perfect for cityside placements — while probably cheaper in the long-run than your current setup.
Not sure how it is going to get to you? The website continues: “Ecocapsule fits into a standard shipping container and no special preparations and precautions are necessary to transport Ecocapsule worldwide. It can be shipped, airlifted, towed or even pulled by a pack animal.”
Yep, the future looks BRIGHT, bringing the realities of Mike Basich, Tim Eddy, and the Busbys to our own lives.
