More than anything surfing is the pursuit of a feeling. Trying to articulate that feeling can yield interesting results, and that goes double for those of us who are less articulate in the first place. You may find yourself making sounds, using hand gestures, all to tell your buddies about the best wave you got in a session. It quickly becomes less fish story, more interpretive dance.
Micah Peasley (also known as the “Wapaah Guy” or the “Get Pitted Guy”) rose to viral fame when he “seriously faked” an interview 15 years ago with Fox 11 news. Funny thing is, for everyone outside the general surfing bubble it was hilarious, but within it, everyone laughed but also sort of shrugged. “Yeah, we kind of all sound like that sometimes,” we said.
In a quest to parody a handful of the many types of bros in surf, snow, and beyond, the folks at Spy released the video above parodying what they call the “frothy bro.” Peasley, who is featured, probably the best line in the whole bit: “Why do I like surfing? It’s the only sport where the earth moves you.”
The other characters in the short are highly relatable – trying to use surfy sounding words that just don’t work. It’s an instant classic.
