Kirra has had a rough go of it. Once the prime wave of the Gold Coast, Kirra has become second fiddle to Snapper Rocks, since the creation of the Superbank. There’s certainly still excellent waves to be had at the storied break, but as the aging surf practitioners at virtually any spot will tell you: It’s just not as good as it was in the glory days.
In this video from surfonmars’ YouTube channel, Kirra takes some opportunities to exact revenge for its demotion. Every wipeout, bail and broken board feels like a pointed rebuttal to all those Snapper Rocks highlight reels floating around. “I’m still here,” rumbles the aging giant, “and I can still mess you up.”
