Finally, the Eddie went. After seven long years, surfing’s most lauded contest was in the books. But before competition even began, there were a few false starts. One morning, thousands of people lined the beach and even more tuned in online, only to be shot down from contest directors who retracted the green light. Apparently, the waves weren’t quite there just yet. Unfortunately, this would happen once more. On one of those mornings, however, 120 miles away at Jaws, the waves were big, clean, and ready for the picking. Best thing about it? No one was out. The world’s best big-wave surfers were getting blue balls back on Oahu. Here’s the madness that ensued.
