Longboarding is great. That’s not something I ever thought I’d hear myself say, by recently, I’ve fallen in love with the log. In the last year alone, I’ve ridden a busted up old 9’6 more than I’ve ridden anything else, and more and more, I’m finding that it’s becoming my preferred method of sliding around on waves. Of course, I’ll stick to a regular shortboard when the waves are right, but living in California, that’s really not that often.
Everything is smoother; more drawn out and slower, but somehow faster at the same time. There are some truly incredible longboarders out there, but they never see the light of day in traditional surf media, with a few notable exceptions. The video above, taken via the ever-buzzing Big Brother drone, was shot in an ASP event in China. Antoine Delpero, a French longboarding maniac, puts on a display of surfing that even the most salty of shortboarders can’t help but appreciate. It’s also some of the best drone footage I’ve ever seen. For the most part, drones never seem to really capture speed properly, but this one does. Perfectly, in fact. The piloting of this thing is nearly as impressive as the surfing. 10 for the wave, 9 for the drone.
