Being in the ocean amongst powerful waves doesn’t come naturally to many people. Water is a pretty heavy element, and especially when in motion, it becomes one of the greatest forces of nature.
Fearing this is only natural. But with time and familiarity, we become more comfortable with it. Our abilities improve and we start to see things differently. We start to see that remaining calm is the very thing that helps us navigate fear and, just like many things in life, through adverse situations.
That’s where the idea for this film came to me. I wanted to share my relationship with the ocean in one of its most extreme places: heavy shorebreak. We live on a spectacular planet full of wonderful things happening every second and unfortunately, there are just too many things to see in one lifetime.
Playing in the shorebreak is something that has been part of my life as far back as I can remember, so in a way, this film is a lifetime’s worth of work. There were months of labor and love put into this project so I truly hope it will serve its purpose and bring many people a new perspective of the amazing spectacle that occurs when the ocean meets the sand.
