About 20 miles off the South East Cape of Tasmania lies Eddystone Rock. It’s a wonder of nature–a 100-foot spire of stone jutting out of the ocean. It’s a piece of the old Tasmanian mainland that broke off somewhere around 15,000 years ago.
A few years ago, fisherman showed a couple of surfers the wave that breaks near it. It’s a terrifying slab that trips over a shallow rock shelf. The fisherman had known about its dangers for years, but surfers saw something else.
