The surf trip is one of a surfer’s inalienable rights. If there were a constitution written for surfers and by surfers, somewhere in the top five amendments would certainly include that every surfer has the right to explore, to see and ride waves half a world away, and to enjoy the ocean in a foreign place. We have a natural curiosity that comes with being stoked, but not everybody has the means to make that happen.
For James Fazio, surfing and spending time with children in different countries clearly gave him a deep sense of compassion toward the kids who don’t have those opportunities. Time Well Spent is James Fazio’s documentary that will take four young talented surfers to Panama. But there’s a catch. These kids have never been on a surf trip away from home, either because they’ve grown up in orphanages or their families couldn’t afford to, and their time in Central America won’t just be spent in the ocean. They’ll be paying it forward by helping others who are even less fortunate than themselves. His hope for these four young men will tug at your heart strings to show them that they can have a positive influence on the world around them.
Watch and listen to Fazio’s story. You’ll be happy you did.
