With tourism on the rise this summer after a couple of seasons off, shenanigans are on the rise as well. The latest? E-foiling in Venice. After videos of two tourists taking a joyride down the Grand Canal, Venice’s main thoroughfare for water traffic, surfaced online, public outcry ensued. The mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, took to Twitter (below) offering to buy dinner for whoever could identify the two miscreants, describing them as “overbearing idiots who make a mockery of the city.”
That was yesterday. Today, news broke that the two had been identified and their foilboards (together worth 25,000 Euros) confiscated for being “uninsured.” To add insult to injury, the two were fined 1,500 Euros each, and expelled from the city. We’re not sure if Mayor Brugnaro fulfilled his promise of dinner for the tipsters.
