Leave it up to Mother Nature to start firing as soon as the WSL packed their bags. Just before the Quiksilver Pro popped off, Cyclone Marcia graced much of East Coast of Australia with a swell that only comes around every other decade or so. But when it was game time, the sea went quiet. Very, very quiet. So quiet that the WSL had to spend $100k to extend the contest window. And although less-than-stellar conditions prevailed, it didn’t stop the Quiksilver Pro from being one of the most entertaining contests ever.
Now that they’re gone, the Goldie has awakened from her slumber. It’s a classic example of being skunked. But not for these guys. Here’s Jordy Smith, Matt Banting, Dion Atkinson, Ryan Hipwood, Davey Cathels and a host of others whose patience payed off. Check Dion’s barrel at 2:05 minute marker. We like to think this is what heaven looks like.
