The Inertia

Wedge season is here, and you know what that means: the coming months will (hopefully) be full of days like the one you see here.

The clip, courtesy of Wedge aficionados BEEFS.TV, is comprised of nearly 20 minutes of raw footage from the first big swell of the year. Dubbed the Simpson Swell after the legendary bodysurfer Fred Simpson who recently passed away, it landed on April 12, a day that just so happened to be the day of Simpson’s paddle out.

As usual, surfers, bodyboarders, and wave riders of all kinds were there to throw themselves off the ledge, cross their fingers, and hope to come out. But surfing the Wedge isn’t really about coming out. It’s about the attempt. And there were a lot of impressive attempts.
