After an embarrassing miscalculation by the ASP that gave Kelly his 11th title then took it away, Slater has shown, for the second time, that he’s worthy of an 11th world title. His fourth round heat against a Brazilian contingent including Miguel Pupo and Gabriel Medina saw onshore winds and three-to-five foot waves at San Francisco’s Ocean Beach. After advancing through to the Quarterfinals, his his crown is now secured.
“It’s a little anti-climactic,” Slater said. “This is my profession and it’s a little on me to know the situation and it’s not just everyone else’s fault.”
