The Inertia

This was the only sentence we needed to see in the email we received from photographer Tom Pearsall: “The Right in WA fired up again last week,” it said. A handful of photos said the rest. The Right had indeed, lit up like only The Right could.

Here’s what photographer Tom Pearsall wrote to us in the next message, describing another classic day with one of the world’s most freakish waves:

“It was meant to be a beautiful spring morning but as many mornings turn out around here, it was lumpy, there was a morning sickness to it all, and it was freezing cold. Gradually the teams that hung around thawed out and everyone got into the mix as the ocean cleaned up.

Zac Haynes was first into the lineup and the first out of the lineup after suffering an ankle injury on his third wave. Shane Ackerman surprised the onlookers by paddling into the lineup and straight into a lump within two minutes. His second wave proved fatal to one of his eardrums. The Shanan Worrall and Jarryd Foster team backdoored like they were at a beachie and Luke Saranah was happy to be on the rope when Ben Rufus whipped him into the thickest one of the day.”
