It’s been a long summer for Pipe specialists like Koa Rothman. They just sit and stare at Pipeline, a single tear running down their cheeks, lips quivering ever so slightly like Brendan Fraser’s “Most Sensitive Man in the World.” Waiting. Waiting for winter. Just kidding… Pipe specialists like Koa Rothman generally fill their time chasing other very good waves around the world. But when winter comes around? Well, you can bet Koa Rothman is making sure he’s at home. And since it’s October already (what?) Pipeline is stretching her limbs, kicking back the covers, and getting ready to party. The first swells of the winter are rolling into the North Shore and the summer sand is coming off the reefs, so Koa spent a few days checking out all the old haunts. And while they’re not perfectly perfect — as they will be sometime soon — they’re trying to be.
