Oahu’s winter is starting off with a bang. It’s been only a month or so since the first swells of the season announced the onset of winter, but we’re already starting to see some killer footage come out of it. When another swell rolled in and brought with it the promise of giant surf, Jamie O’Brien was ready for it.
Even a Pipeline veteran like O’Brien seemed somewhat surprised by the size of a swell so early in the season. “That was fun. You gotta love it when it’s still early season here. It’s still November and we got a big swell. Let’s keep it going,” he said of the session. “We just had a blast overall. That was an epic time.” He then followed up the explosive first half with a second POV GoPro session at Pipeline.
The most exciting part of all is that it’s still just the beginning. We have yet to see the true potential of what is in store for the winter proper. Hopefully, sessions like this are just scratching the surface of what’s to come. Seeing as all those swells will be landing basically in JOB’s back yard, we can rest assured he’ll be in the mix when they come.
