The Inertia

Drones are changing the way we look at surfing. They’ve enabled us to see places that weren’t possible to see before… and we liked it. And, as technology will do, drones are getting smaller and smaller and better and better.

Take this the Micro Drone 3.0, for example. It uses the world’s smallest gimbal. It’s auto-leveling, you can fly it from your freaking iPhone, and, in what might be the coolest/nerdiest thing ever, IT COMES WITH A VIRTUAL REALITY HEADSET. A peeping tom’s dream!

Hey dad, who's that guy outside with the cardboard box on his head?

The Micro Drone 3.0 can fly upside down. It shoots at 1280×720 px HD at 30 fps. It has intelligent motions sensors that keep it stable and level, so you can “focus more on filming and less on flying. If you don’t want to carry around the controller, you can use your mobile device (iOS or Android).

Hang on, Tim. I have a drone on the other line.

If you fly the thing into a tree, you can pull the whole thing apart and replace just the broken bits… not like an iPhone, where if the battery messes up, you have to buy a whole new iCar and iHouse. It even has social media integration, so you can live stream where you’re flying onto Twitter. It even has a built in editing suite that you can use on your phone. Sounds as though they hit all the marks, doesn’t it? But there’s more!

Using that crazy 3D printing technology, you can build your own frame for it. Make it into a dragon, or a bee, or in Paul Fisher’s case, a giant flying penis.

Right now, the Micro Drone 3.0 has raised over $1.7 million using a crowdfunding campaign. For $150, you can be among the first people to get one of these tiny little things. See more on their Indiegogo page.
