The Inertia

It doesn’t get much more idyllic than this. An A-frame peak, breaking in crystal blue water and nestled on the north end of a lush, white sand island. Thanburudhoo Island in the Maldives is like the place surfers draw in their notebooks while pretending to pay attention in middle school. It’s unreal. And good news – it’s no longer in talks of becoming privatized.

A boutique surf resort had been in the process of creating a “guests only” experience at the wave, denying all others from enjoying its postcard perfection. Basically that would’ve meant that anyone without a black card and a bank account resembling Oprah’s – an unlikely trait of most surfers, let alone humans on this earth – would be barred. But thanks to a decision from the Ministry of Tourism, the wave and the island is open to everyone.

“This will allow local surfers, surfers from around the world and organizers of surf competition to use the island in the best possible way,” the Ministry of Tourism said in a statement.

Now get pumped with this insane Maldives super session.
