The Coral Coast of Western Australia is subject to harsh weather patterns all year. In September we’re usually gifted with one last ground swell paired with offshore winds but after that, strong cross shore winds from the south ruin any chance of the groomed barreling waves WA is best known for.
This session was a great way to end winter in Western Australia. Sure enough, we got that large, two-meter ground swell with light offshore winds. The main spot in town lit up for one last time and the locals made the most of the conditions with heavy barreling waves reeling down the rocky shelf.
From the looks of the long-range forecast, it appears the step-ups will be packed away until next year and swapped out for those summer grovelers. It wasn’t an all-time winter but there certainly were stand-out sessions that we’ll reminisce about through the summer months.
