Would you believe me if I said that some of the best surfing at J-Bay wasn’t even during the competition? Don’t get me wrong, J-Bay was an exciting event from start to finish, with great waves and plenty of highlights. Despite the time difference in the Southern Hemisphere, I was glued to my screen while the contest was running, even if I should have been sleeping.
That being said, there’s something about the looseness that the best surfers in the world display when they’re not surfing in a jersey that really makes one’s jaw drop. And when you pair that with a world-class break like J-Bay and the conditions we saw during the event window, you get a pretty sweet highlight reel for sure.
