The Inertia

After a slow start to the winter, the North Shore and Hawaiian Islands have been getting hammered for the past week or more. So far, the swell shows no signs of slowing down. The focus has been on Pipeline, with events like the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout taking place, and one rad clip after another filtering in for the Vans Triple Crown. However, yesterday (Sunday) saw a bit too much swell in the water for Pipeline, and big-wave spots across the islands began lighting up. Jaws was no exception.

“A big west swell created some awesome big wave surfing moments at Pe’ahi for the first XL swell of the year,” said Marcus Rodrigues, who runs the MROD Maui YouTube channel. “The conditions were great all day long, glassy with very light winds and lots of swell on offer. It was a very consistent day of big waves giving everyone a chance to warm up for the next swells ahead.”

With even more XL swell on the near horizon, I think we’ll be hearing plenty more from Jaws again very soon. Stay tuned.
