The Inertia

On Tuesday, April 21st, most of Sydney and the surrounding coastline were battening down the hatches as one of the most powerful low pressure systems in recent memory intensified off Australia’s east coast.

With cyclonic wind gusts of over 100km/h, localized flooding, fallen trees and traffic chaos, few were thinking of surfing. Besides, most spots were just too big, too windy and too disorganized to be considered rideable. Undeterred, Manly surfer Sam Jones and bodyboarder Max Dodshon accompanied by an unidentified crew of local chargers braved the elements at Deadmans, one of the few Sydney spots making sense of the extreme conditions. Dodging 15ft washthroughs and closeout sets sucking dry on the inside reef, the hellmen managed to pick off couple of bombs with both Max and Sam scratching into some heart in mouth drops right in front of the cliff face.
