Fall is a time of beautiful indecision on the Central Coast of California. Smack dab in the middle of the state, this area can’t decide whether it should be the rugged and hypnotic Northern Coast, or the warmer, more temperate Southern Coast. I, for one, consider myself lucky to be able experience its diversity.
Some days are cold, grey, and misty, resembling the cozy and enchanting Northern Coast. Other days seem to take a page out of San Diego’s book, where the sun breathes warmth onto the sand and the green water is warm enough for a 3:2 wetsuit. It’s a guessing game that I love to play, regardless if I’m losing.
As the sea and sun began to make some decisions in November and December, this part of the Golden State experienced some amazing days. While some days were clear, yet deceptively frigid, others had a hint of humidity and a warm breeze. Some days the sandbars and swell direction would align for some dredging, sandy beasts, while others blessed the coastline with groomed, backlit peelers. This time of year is truly an incredible experience for watermen and photographers like myself.
