According to his mom John John got his first barrel when he was just 6 months old, so nobody’s surprised to watch him turn into the surfer he is today. And this little snippet of Florence circa 2000 has it all, from Florence telling us he’s going to become a professional surfer (and skater) to downtime spent in front of a Playstation. Not PS3, not even a Playstation 2…just a Playstation. That’s how old this video is.
Anyway, if you could buy stock in surfers this kid would have been a solid investment even at 8 years old. We all knew back then he was going to be a big deal. C’mon, the kid was in Vogue Magazine before he could even start middle school. How many 7th graders are going to pick on you when all you have to is pull out that spread and shove it in their face? That’s without even mentioning how early John John started getting barreled at Pipe. Anyway, it’s still fun to look back and think of the time we all couldn’t wait for John John Florence to grow into all that potential. And boy is he delivering.
